Christopher Payne
Christopher Payne is a photographer whom specializes in architectural photography and the large format documentation of America's industrial heritage. Trained as an architect, he is fascinated by design, assembly, and the built form. The photographs featured to the right are from his collection 'Asylum', when i researched into the urban decay/derelict idea of 'Evidence' for this module i came across Christopher Paynes collection of these photographs. The main reason why i liked these photographs were the compostion he chooses and the sharp angles he chooses, Also in consideration of composition he has taken the first photograph using a technique of forced perspective, as it makes the viewer feel the doors closest to the shot are of a larger scale than the doors further into the shot.
In terms of recreation, if i was to recreate the top photograph, i believe natural lighting is used and no other lighting was used. I would use an ISO of between 200 and 400 as the shot features natural light and i want it to have low sensitivity to light as if i used an ISO of 800- 1600 it would over expose the photograph as it would have a high sensitivity to the light. I would also use an aperture of f/4 - f/5.6 as i want to let the natural light into the photograph but not too much and not too little. Therefore i would use a shutter speed of 1/125 which is a faster shutter speed, as if i used a slower shutter speed, the photograph would be exposed to light for loo long, resulting in the photograph appearing too over exposed.
