Shoot 7 - Evidencing Articles of Abraham Ormerod Medical Centre

Abraham Ormerod Medical Centre is a derelict and Abandoned building in Todmorden which closed in 2004. The site is part of a controversial murder case focused on Harold Shipman. I wanted to evidence something from the derelict building.I photographed these newspaper articles which relate to the happenings and occurences at The Abraham Ormerod Medical Centre in the studio using the white backdrop and photographing them in the style of a doctors/hospital xray viewing layout to relate to the medical idea.

I used two lights either side of the articles the highlight them evenly. I then also used another two lights to highlight the backdrop to create a look of seperation of the articles from the backdrop. I wanted to create a series of photographs that captured all the articles in this style and displayed them clearly to go alongside my exterior photographs of the building.

Therefore when i photographed i used a selection of composition ideas for example photographing using a macro lens within an off central composition technique featuring the article in the left third to capture the detail within the article. The other composition technique i adopted was symmetry and i focussed on this with the photographs containing two news articles or more for example this can be seen through the photographs to the right. When photographing within the studio i experimented with the aperture at f/14 - f/16 to ensure not alot of light was let into the shot, as there was bright model lights highlight the objects. I then experimented with a shutter speed of between 1/60 to ensure the camera wasnt exposed to the light for too long ensuring the photograph didnt come out too over exposed or under exposed.
