Embedded War Photographers


Tim Hetherington

Tim Hetherington is a photojournalist who photographs war zones throughout the world, at first he worked for the big issue as a photographer. From researching into this photographer further following on from the lecture, he is known for photographing around the world on assignments and for personal photography to document war and controversial occurences. Hetherington was unfortunetly killed while covering the front lines in the besieged city of Misrata, Libya, during the 2011 Libyan civil war.

James Nachtwey

James Nachtwey is a american photojournalist and war photographer. When photographing in Baghdad in 2003 he was injured in a grenade attack, in which he made a full recovery from. Following on from this he carried on photographing worldwide during war zones unti he was grazed by a bullet on his left leg while photographing political protests in Thailand. Following of from the lecture where he featured i researched further into the history of himself as a photographer and photography he practices today, which he is currently working for a new company called TIME.

Richard Mosse

Richard Mosse is a Irish conceptual documentary photographer. He is best known for his photographs of the war in the Eastern Congowar with a difference. He photographs war conditions using colour infared film in a large format camera, this creates a new feel and perspective to war photography. In comparison to Nachtwey and Hetherington, Moose's photography appears less serious. He has lately become a member of magnum photography in 2015. Even though critics judge his work reguarly, for example Sean O'Hagan, writing in The Guardian, said "His images from there often seem to skirt the real and the fictional, simply though their heightened and unreal colours.
