Jenny Van Sommers
Jenny Van Sommers is a still life photographer from London who photographs for magazines such as Dazed and Vogue. But also has advertising clients such as Audi, Apple and Hermes.
"I’ve always liked geometry and three-dimensional shapes. I’m very attracted to those very simple, modern things."
This is a quote i adopted when i was photographing three dimensional objects of tin cans and a bucket which i taken from Stand Football club and The Abraham Medical Centre, whereas these were once "modern things"
that
had experienced destruction and
that resulted in an un modern outcome look.
One aspect of Jenny Van Sommers photography that i experimented with was her central composition. As you can see from the three photographs featured they all resemble a rule of thirds central composition. This is where the subject of each photograph is placed in the central third of the frame.
One aspect i didnt experiment with of Jenny Van Summers photography style was the tonal lighting background which is achieved by dual lighting with coloured gels. I didnt do this as it wasnt relatable to my photographs i was trying to achieve and i feel if i used this technique it would have taken away the cohesive feel to my images as the gel lit background would not create any meaning or added information structure to the photograph.
