Rut Lees Luxembourg
Rut Lees Luxenbourg is a photographer whom studied photography at London College of Communication and then went on to study at the University of Westminster. She is known for her use of long exposures to allow her to use the light emanating from the street, for example from office blocks or street lights in her photographs. As you can see from the second photograph as a photographer she pays attention to the smallest detail even though she is known for large scale building photographs. I adopted this technique of macro photography when photographing in the studio of photographing the objects i taken from the abandoned/derelict buildings. But i also experimented with the long exposure with natural lighting, i found this difficult as the abandoned buildings i found and photographed as part of this evidence module, were in unlit areas and using natural lighting wasnt an option.
One aspect of Luxembourg's photography that i admire is the different scale of photography, for example she photographs new city buildings and urban decay style derelict buildings. This contrast shows two different aspects of photography using the same style of natural lighting.
In composition terms i experimented with the symmetrical style seen in the last photograph of Luxembourg's, i believe using this technique creates a powerful photograph which is why i used this technique to photograph the exterior of my final images at The Abraham Ormerod Medical Centre as it has a grand 4 post structure, and i wanted to ensure this appeared as grand in the photograph as real life.
In recreation of the top photograph of
Luxembourg's i would experiment with an ISO of between 400-800 as it allows the photograph to have medium sensitivity to light, which is needed during night time, whereas having a lower ISO such of 100 it would have a low sensitivity to light which would make the photograph too dark. I would also use an aperture of f/4 - f/8 as i would like to experiment with the amount of light being let in due to using natural light. I would finally use a shutter speed of 1/60 - 1/125 as this doesnt expose the shot to light for too long or too less amount of time resulting in an under exposed or over exposed photograph.
To Conclude, i feel Luxembourg's photography has influenced me alot within my own photography during this module, apart from the natural light technique.
